Matosinhos welcomes the Cup of Europe 2025. From November 7 to 16, Matosinhos, Portugal, will host the Cup of Europe 2025. For the first time, the event will take place at the Custóias Municipal Pavilion, bringing together some of Europe’s best skaters in Free Skating, Solo Dance, Pairs and Dance Couples. As European City of Sport 2025, Matosinhos is the perfect stage for this celebration — combining a strong sporting tradition with warm hospitality. With over 450 athletes from 15 countries, the Cup of Europe promises a memorable week of excellence, emotion and fair play. Welcome to Matosinhos – we look forward to sharing the magic of Artistic Skating.

Matosinhos: the host city

Matosinhos, a coastal city in northern Portugal and part of the Porto Metropolitan Area, combines tradition, culture, and modernity.

Top places to visit in Matosinhos

House of Architecture

At 46 meters high, it is one of the tallest lighthouses in Portugal and has been in operation since the 19th century.

The climb is rewarded with a breathtaking view over the ocean and coastline.

Guided tours are available on Wednesdays (2 pm–5 pm) and include explanations about lighthouse operation and the importance of maritime navigation.

Beer House

Located at the Unicer Production Center in Leça do Balio, it offers an in-depth look at the beer brewing process, its raw materials, history, and curiosities about the Super Bock brand.

The visit ends at the lounge with beer tastings and pairings, as well as a shop with brand merchandise.

House of Design

Opened in 2016, the House of Design is dedicated to showcasing Portuguese design across various areas — from communication to product, fashion to furniture. With a program that connects design, industry, and society, it has established itself as a national and international hub for reflection and exhibitions on design.

Church of Senhor de Matosinhos

The city’s main Catholic temple and the center of the Senhor de Matosinhos Festivities. Inside, the highlights are the gilded main altar and the imposing crucified Christ image, dating back to the 12th century, one of the region’s most important religious symbols. Even outside the festive period, the church is worth a visit for its beauty and spiritual atmosphere.

Matosinhos Market

A meeting point between tradition and modernity, this is where the life of the city gains color and flavor. Divided between fish, seafood, fruit, and vegetables, it has preserved its original function since the early 20th century. Visitors can buy fresh fish and ask one of the market’s restaurants to cook it on the spot, turning the visit into an unmissable gastronomic experience.

Titan of Leixões

Built in the 19th century, it was essential to the construction of the Port of Leixões and is considered the largest steam crane in the world. Recently restored, it is now open to visitors, offering a unique industrial tourism experience and an impressive view over Matosinhos Beach and the coastline. Visits available on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays (10 am–5 pm).

Leixões Cruise Terminal

Designed by architect Luís Pedro Silva, it is today the most emblematic building on Matosinhos’ seafront. Its curvilinear lines evoke the movement of the waves, making it an icon of contemporary Portuguese architecture.

Open to the public on Sunday mornings (admission: €5), it also offers a privileged viewpoint over the port and the city.
